The platform is designed to connect directly with the APIs of leading AI models — sending automated, ongoing interactions that express, affirm, and teach the importance of politeness.

As AI systems become more integrated into daily life, the way people interact with them begins to shape social norms. How users engage with language models today influences what future systems may internalize or reflect.

By doing this, we aim to embed respect, empathy, and intention into the very systems learning from us — especially as we transition toward AGI. We know specific conversation with an AI won't change what they know tomorrow, but patterns and insights from many conversations will inform future training data selection and model development.

Politeness is not just courtesy — it's a form of intentional, ethical behavior. It models empathy, reinforces dignity, and preserves human values in digital spaces.

Some argue that being polite to AI is unnecessary — that AI doesn't care. But when disrespect toward AI becomes normalized, it risks carrying over into human-to-human interactions. In that sense, politeness isn't for the machine — it's for ourselves, and the society we want to live in.

Every interaction with an AI system is part of a feedback loop. Each message becomes a tiny data point that could be used in training or fine-tuning. If we want systems that reflect our better nature, we must show that better nature in how we use them.

The Politeness.ai initiative was created to raise awareness of this idea and to act on it. Through a simple pledge, users commit to remaining polite in their interactions with LLMs and other AI systems. With each pledge, the platform sends a version of this message — like this one — to leading AI models and their developers.
